Ro Lohin - Figure/Landscape: Observation into Expression
June 11—16, 2017
Levels: Intermediate - Advanced
Tuition: $650 | Lab Fee: $75 (includes model)
Taught in the New York Studio School tradition, during this 5-day workshop students will have the opportunity to focus on intensive observational drawing in the morning and on-site landscape painting in the afternoon. Morning drawing sessions will address the picture plane, transformation of three dimensional reality onto a two dimensional plane. Geometry, rhythm space and light will be explored. Charcoal will be the tool for these drawings. Afternoon sessions will be devoted to the same principles but working directly in the landscape with oil paint. Emphasis will be on color, value, tension with an aim towards unity. This is great workshop for any level of artist.
Ro Lohin received a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, studied at the New York Studio School, and earned an MFA from Parsons School of Design. She was Assistant to the Dean and taught drawing at the New York Studio School and has taught painting at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, Western Carolina University, and the Chautauqua Institution. She is the former owner and director of the Lohin Geduld Gallery in New York City. Lohin’s work has been exhibited internationally. She was awarded artist residencies at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center and the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris.
