ABOUT DURFORT:

Durfort, the entrance to the Black Mountain: The village is located in Durfortthe Tarn between  RevelHaute-Garonne  and the Tarn Soreze. It borders the banks of the Sor, the local river leads down to the Black Mountain. The picturesque village is built around the place of Plo. You will find many old houses cantilevered through the alleys crisscrossed by a central channel where water flows clear and abundant.

Durfort is nicknamed Cité du Cuivre (the copper city), for the prosperous copper artisan trade that exists there, in addition to artisan trades in leather, glass, basket-making and jewelry. Durfort is home to Musée du Cuivre (the copper museum), established in 1986, to document five centuries of the local copper craft.

ABOUT LA CASCADE:

La Cascade is our 17th century house situated in a tiny medieval village in southern France. It lies on the banks of a small river that flows between between the steep walls of the valley. The village fans out of the valley onto rich surrounding planes which have been fought over by a succession of Francs, Romans, Visigoths Vikings, etc. The longest period of peace was under the Romans, but there was also a period of peace that accompanied the rise of a mysterious dissident Catholic sect called the Cathars. After a couple of centuries of prosperity, they were wiped out by papal decree in the 12th century. (read more)

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS:

Lisa Pressman has envisioned this workshop to guide us into focusing on ways to use traveling as the source of sensory information that will get translated into artmaking. Cameras or I-phones, sketchbooks and assignments focusing on specific art fundamentals will shape our France experience. On our outings we will photograph and draw while being mindful of all our senses. In the studio, using our outings as inspiration, we will be experimenting with a range of materials including: R&F pigment sticks, oil paint, cold wax, graphite, ink, and pastels.  (read more
