  • Suzanne Siegel - Mixed Media Collage from Hand-Painted Papers, with Water-based Paints

    June 25 - 30, 2017
    Medium: Collage
    Level: Open to All Levels
    Tuition:  $600 | Lab Fee: $55

In this workshop, we explore some unique and experimental painting and transfer methods and printing without a press on lightweight archival papers. Mixed media may include, pigments, marble powder, graphite, pastels, crayons, thread, lightweight fabric, and any pieces of paper that can be scanned with a copier, onto archival paper. We will explore mark making with various tools, as we create unique and beautiful collage papers. We will make collages with these papers using a variety of nonjudgmental beginnings to let go of our inner critic. Gradually the process moves to more intentional approaches as we try to maintain non-attachment by working on more than one piece at a time. We will use supports that can be matted and framed with glass or mounted on wood panels for a more contemporary approach. Students can also work directly on wood panels. Demonstrations, slide presentation, critiques, and group discussion included. Some materials provided.

Suzanne Siegel takes long walks, always in places near the sea. She makes drawings, takes notes, and searches for visual ideas that communicate arrangements of space and luminous light that she feels deeply connected to. With a visual and sensual interest in rugged working harbors and ever changing tidal environments at the edge of the sea, Suzanne works in mixed media painting, watercolor, and mixed media collages. In her studio, she searches inventively with line, shape, color, texture, and value as she suggests the spirit of her beloved locations. She is currently represented by Carver Hill Gallery in Rockland, Maine, Cynthia Winings Gallery in Blue Hill, Maine, Cove Gallery in Wellfleet, MA, Cape Gallery Framers in Falmouth, MA, and Archipelago - The Island Institute in Rockland, Maine. She teaches workshops in Truro, MA, Nantucket, MA, Stowe, VT (upcoming), and in her Guilford studio. Suzanne is also available for local and distance art mentoring for individuals at any level.
