  • Barbara Grossman - Observation to Invention: Painting the Figure

      June 25 - June 30, 2017
    Medium:  Painting
    Level: Intermediate to Advanced
Tuition:  $635   Lab Fee: $85 (includes model)
The figure is one of the great challenges for artists. How we depict such a form which insists on its' particular integrity is our goal. The class will work directly from the model in an environment designed to create a visually interesting space. The key to understanding the figure is to see and understand the space, color and light. The figure participates in the entirety and all else follows such as shape, scale and form. To achieve this broad and very intensive investigation we will both paint and draw the motif going back and forth with materials and exercises to help see in a new way. We will also invent from our observations. Individual vision is encouraged. Materials to be used will include: Oil paint, charcoal, graphite and possibly collage .
