  • Rebecca Crowell – Digging Deeper: Advanced Abstraction

    June 18—23, 2017
    Medium:  Mixed Media
    Levels: Advanced & Masters
Tuition:  $750 | Lab Fee: $75 (includes a supply of cold wax medium)

Rebecca Crowell will build on the experience of artists who have been using cold wax medium for a period of time. The emphasis of this advanced level workshop is on personal direction and expression, understanding abstraction, developing key elements of art such as color, value and composition, and on new ideas for using tools and techniques. There will be plenty of working time along with demos, slide presentations and discussion of relevant topics. Crowell will take time to review any introductory techniques as requested. The workshop also includes a private session with the instructor to provide feedback on your overall artwork, and to gain a broader perspective and ideas for moving forward. Participants need to come with a solid working knowledge of cold wax basics—either from a previous introductory class or through work on their own using Rebecca’s book, Cold Wax Medium: Techniques, Concepts, & Conversations ( ) as a guide. This is a great opportunity to take your experience to the next level.

Rebecca Crowell is known for her innovative painting techniques involving cold wax medium and mixed media, and she teaches both in the US and internationally—recent workshops include those in Ireland, Sweden and Italy. She is represented by a number of fine art galleries in various locations including Dublin, Ireland; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Telluride, Colorado; Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Columbia, Missouri.  Her representation with Gormleys Fine Art in Dublin has recently led to international exposure, including several European art fairs. Recent honors include being selected for her 2nd commission for the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, a project that involved five large paintings for the new Zayed Research building there.
