Susan Demchak – Plein Air Watercolor - Palette, Purpose, Process, Painting
June 17—22, 2012
Medium: Watercolor
Level: Intermediate to Advanced
The focus of this workshop is on better painting through better planning. Simple and more advanced exercises will lead students to a deeper awareness of their subject and how to create clear, vibrant watercolors. Plein air painting in mountainside locations will be the studio for learning how to distill visual information into effective compositions. Artists can develop their painting practice rapidly through demonstrations by the teacher and through personal interaction with the instructor. Susan guides students by demonstrating and sharing practical, yet often overlooked, techniques of how to successfully plan their work. Students enjoy Susan’s energetic and insightful teaching and will leave the workshop feeling personally coached. Group interaction and sense of community are encouraged.

Born in the Midwest, Susan Demchak received her training at the University of Michigan where she met and traveled with a group of plein air painters. She first visited Florence Italy and then Scotland and Ireland before returning to the United States. She received the prestigious Trafford Klots Artist Residency in Rochefort en Terre France. She has exhibited in Illinois, Michigan, New York, Maine, Massachusetts, Connecticut, France and Italy. Susan is currently represented by three galleries and teaches at the De Cordova Museum Sculpture Park and Museum in Lincoln, MA. She lives in Massachusetts, continuing a time-honored tradition of island painters.
