    "Finding Your Form Through Clay"

This workshop is intended to help you establish a more intimate relationship with your natural environment as well as impacting your relationship with clay.  Snow Hill and the surrounding coastal environment will be a perfect place to collect natural forms that attract you and then use these forms to inspire your work in clay.  I will share my favorite hand building techniques that should lay a foundation for the construction of different forms.  Intuition, spontaneity and fun will be part of this process oriented workshop.  Only a curiosity and an open mind are required.

Alice Ballard received her Bachelor of Science in design from the U. of Michigan.  She followed this with a Master’s Degree in painting. Her work is represented by Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC, Eno Gallery in Hillsborough and Hodges Taylor Art Consultancy, Charlotte, NC.  She has work in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery in Washington DC as well as the Mint Museum of Art, Charlotte, NC and has completed numerous public art projects in Alaska. Most recently she has completed commissions for the Medical U. of SC and Abacus Financial Planning, Inc. in Columbia, SC.  She just closed a solo exhibition at the Greenville County Museum of Art, and in recent years has had exhibitions at Winthrop University, the Sumter County Museum of Art, UNC Asheville and the SC Governor’s School for the Arts & Humanities.  This fall her Tree Totem IX will be in a special exhibition at the Columbia Museum of Art featuring work by Georgia O’Keeffe and her time in Columbia in 1914.  Alice is the recipient of a SC Art Commission Artist Fellowship, received a Fulbright Grant to study in India and was invited to participate in the International Ceramic Colony in Resen, Macedonia.  www.aliceballard.com
