Lisa Pressman - Exploring Personal Language with Mixed Media
Medium: Painting – Oil, Cold Wax Medium, Pigment Sticks,
and other mark-making tools.
Levels: Intermediate to Advanced
Lab Fee: $45 (includes a supply of cold wax medium, solvent and more)
The focus of this workshop will be on expanding your personal vocabulary and vision through a series of exercises that will loosen you up and also help you discover techniques of moving paint. I will introduce you to the varied uses of R&F Handmade Pigment sticks. We will be focusing on transparency and opacity, contrast and and variety in mark making. Other materials such as graphite, ink, pastels and oil paint will be introduced along with cold wax.
Demonstrations include; layering, excavating, monoprinting, glazing, texture, and editing. Students will be encouraged to work in a series, while revisiting the painting process. Activities will include exercises, informal group discussion, individual support, power points. We will focus on content and how to see. Some art background helpful. Workshop is for beginners to-professionals.
Lisa Pressman, American abstract painter, was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey in 1958. She earned her BA in Art from Douglass College, Rutgers University and her MFA from Bard College. Her work focuses on a visual synthesis of stored and personal memory.
Lisa’s paintings have been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums and galleries throughout the USA and internationally including The Hunderton Art Museum, Clinton, NJ, Butters Gallery, Portland, OR, Susan Eley Fine Arts, NY, NY, Causey Contemporary, NY, NY, Rosenfeld Gallery, Philadelphia, PA, Therese A. Maloney Art Gallery, College of Saint Elizabeth, Morristown, NJ, Pallazo Dell’Annunziata, Matera, Italy and R&F Gallery, Kingston, NY.
Lisa is a core instructor for R&F Handmade Paints in Kingston, NY and a workshop instructor for Gamblin Artists Colors. She is an annual presenter and instructor at the International Encaustic Conference in Provincetown, MA and teaches workshops in both.
