  • 2019 Summer Arts - Rachel Meginnes

    The Artistic Pursuit

    June 24 - 28, 2019

    Medium: Mixed Media Fiber
    Level: All Levels
    Tuition: $695
    Lab Fee: $95

Profound beauty results from honing our skills and finding familiarity with our materials. Over time, as we develop attachments to specific media and methods of making, we both define and limit our artistic potential. Our identities become locked in position, linked to known ways of working, and enticed by skill acquisition rather than a more holistic understanding of our artistic selves. This workshop uses your past artistic experiences as a jumping off point for future exploration. Our class writings, readings, project prompts, and group discussions will guide you through the process of finding your voice as an artist while gaining confidence in your work and in your daily practice. Students of all levels, who are eager to explore their inner motivations and inspirations are invited to take this course. Please bring a willingness to share with others and a desire to unlock your creative capacity.

Rachel Meginnes is an artist and educator committed to the idea that art creates more fulfilling lives. With 20 years of experience in the studio and classroom, Rachel finds that individual strength develops from the ability to dream, propose, commit, create, and share our work with others. She believes that the artistic process directly reflects our broader search for human success and enables us to generate the tools we need to thrive.

Rachel has taught all ages and levels. She has operated her own business for the past 12 years and understands art from the perspective of artist, dealer, and buyer. Her current works, using discarded vintage quilts, may be found in corporate, museum, school, and private collections in the USA and around the world. Rachel holds a BA in art from Earlham College and an MFA in Fibers from the University of Washington. She currently lives and works in western North Carolina and was recently awarded a North Carolina Arts Council Fellowship in Craft.
