2019 Summer Arts - Hannah Skoonberg
Learn to create lovely prints with the ancient process of reductive relief printmaking. Print created with this method have the look and feel of Japanese Woodcuts, but with methods that are easier to master. This 5-day workshop can be taken by beginners or more advanced artists. Hannah will present topics and techniques to give students an understanding of the possibilities and pleasures of creating reductive relief prints, Students in this workshop will learn to carve linoleum plates, print them and learn registration methods for multi plate printing. Hannah encourages students to "come to the workshop with some ideas in mind so that we can jump right into drawing, carving and printing." Skoonberg will work with students one on one to help translate ideas and sketches into images that can be carved.
Hannah Skoonberg received her MFA in printmaking at the University of Tennessee, and her BFA from the University of Georgia. She currently on faculty at the Santa Rosa Junior College in California. Hannah’s work has focused on a relationship with the outdoors, focusing on spaces that are wild, forgotten or overgrown. By honoring these forgotten spaces by observing them carefully the work sees the beauty within the weeds, making less traditional landscapes. Her medium of choice is linoleum which can be carved and printed as layers of color.
Skoonberg's prints have been exhibited in many solo and group shows nationally. She is represented by Blue Spiral Gallery, Asheville, NC.
