Drawing and Painting the Figure with Attention to the Head

    June 24 — 29, 2018

    Tuition: $650
    Lab Fee: $120

    On Campus Lodging/meals:

Sharpen your powers of observation and learn to truly “see.” While working from a live model in the modernist manner, Ro Lohin, will teach students to see the model in terms of planer divisions, rhythm, geometry, movement, negative space to positive space. Designed to deepen your individual language and give you the tools to refine personal expression.  During the mornings, the class will work from the whole figure with gesture, line, composition and proportions. During the afternoon sessions, the will focus will be on the head or portrait and its extraordinary expressive qualities.  Emphasis will begin with classical proportions, planes of the head, the skull, how the head and neck fit together. A truly great opportunity to learn from this experienced artist and teacher who is well-versed with the nuts and bolts for working figuratively as the source for exciting paintings and drawings.

Ro Lohin received a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, studied at the New York Studio School, and earned an MFA from Parsons School of Design.  She was Assistant to the Dean and taught drawing at the New York Studio School and has taught painting at the School of Art and Design at Alfred University, Western Carolina University, and the Chautauqua Institution.  She is the former owner and director of the Lohin Geduld Gallery in New York City. Lohin’s work has been exhibited internationally.  She was awarded artist residencies at the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation, the Vermont Studio Center and the Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris. She paints, on site, on the North Fork of Long Island, and Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula.
