The Poetry of Landscape in Painting and Collage – Observation and Beyond
    June 17 - June 22, 2018

    Medium: Painting - Collage
    All Levels
    Tuition: $600
    Lab Fee: $75

    On Campus Lodging/meals: $650

O world, I cannot hold thee close enough! …”

In this multi-level workshop, you will paint on-site outdoors and work in the studio in collage, both with acrylic on paper, using the landscape as a point of departure and driven by individual sensibilities. Explore the possibilities of personal expression when observation is taken beyond rendered appearance into poetic encounter with what is seen.  Supported by in-depth study of form and structure your skills will be enhanced, clearing a path to unity and enlivened form. In realizing the landscape's poetry, you will also be tapping into an authentic emotional and visual response in your work.

Basics of technique will be presented in a simple way, allowing personal preferences experimentation and control. Critiques / feedback will be ongoing, one-on-one. Group critiques will take place mid-week and on the final day of workshop. Open to all levels of experience.

Meredith Fife Day has worked with collage for 15 years in tandem with her longtime commitment to painting. She has exhibited for more than three decades, including most recently at Soprafina Gallery in Boston and Warm Springs Gallery in Virginia. She has also shown her work at Kimball Union Academy, Wheaton College and Peterborough Fine Art. Her paintings have been selected for numerous invitational shows and national competitions. She teaches painting at Middlesex Community College.

Meredith has been awarded fellowships at Virginia Center for the Creative Arts in Amherst, Va., and Auvillar, France, and Millay Colony for the Arts in Austerlitz, N.Y. She earned an MFA degree from Boston University after receiving BA and MFA degrees from Louisiana State University in her native Baton Rouge. Day has taught at the universities she attended, as well as at Southwest Missouri University.  As an artist and teacher, she believes in learning to see by studying beautiful form throughout history. She is an advocate, consultant, teacher and volunteer for children’s educational programs in the visual arts.
