June 17 - June 22, 2018
Level: All Levels
Lab Fee: $65
On Campus Lodging/meals: $650
This workshop is for students who are new to encaustic and for those who want to expand their skills or get another point of view to explore more possibilities. Students will be oriented to all encaustic equipment, safety measures, materials and some history. Lynda will give demonstrations and explanations of various techniques in a step-by-step method, with encouragement to improvise. The demos are offered at intervals with time to practice in between, throughout the week.
- Surface preparation
- Melting and fusing
- Working transparently
- Working with rubber stencils.
- Making lines and dots with the stylus
- Making “jellyrolls and geodes”
- Enhancing the surface with heat sensitive foil and pastels
- Working with accretion
- Working with printed transfers
- Leaf and pine imprints.
Assistance, guidance, and feedback are given generously. Participants may have many visual ideas they want to experiment with. I will answer all questions and take note of those interests during the workshop. Participants will be supplied small 4x6 inch unbraced wooden practice panels in order to try techniques. These samples are useful for when artists finish the workshop. Each will have his/her own pieces as references for their own work and a record of what’s possible. Many of you may want to work larger on a more resolved piece.
