Cullowhee Mountain ARTS is very excited about 2015 and the superb workshops, travel and retreat opportunities we have programmed for you in Visual Art and Creative Writing.

We are happy to be bringing back many favorite Artists and Writers, such as Painters Rebecca Crowell, Catherine Kehoe, Stuart Shils, Lisa Pressman, Printmakers Jane Nodine and Kerry Vander Meer, Ceramicist Hayne Bayless, Book artist Alice Austin, along with poets Lola Haskins and Cecilia Woloch, -to name only a few.

We are delighted to be introducing some “new to us,”
exceptional artists and writers.

Author and poet Ellen Bass whose
most recent book of poetry, Like a Beggar, was published in April 2014 by Copper Canyon Press. Her previous books include The Human Line (Copper Canyon Press), named a Notable Book by the San FranciscoChronicle and Mules of Love (BOA Editions) which won the Lambda Literary Award. Ellen will be teaching the poetry workshop, “The World Split Open,” July 5 - 10.

Artist Dean Nimmer will teach “The Hundred Drawing Challenge,” June 14 - 19

An exciting opportunity to run this visual marathon, learning new techniques and gathering loads of ideas along the way! Nimmer is the author of the newly published North Light book, “Creating Abstract Art, Ideas and Inspiration for Passionate Art-making,” a 5-star rated, best selling book on Amazon. Dean’s first successful book, Art from Intuition, (Watson-Guptill/Random House, 2008), is currently in its 6th printing.

Book Artist Laura Wait has over 30 years of experience as an artist, bookbinder, conservator, and teacher of the book arts - Words as image play an important part in her work, acting as pattern, texture, and occasionally content.  The diverse media she uses is incorporated into unique artist books as well as paintings on panels, which are made by compilation of writings on paper layered with paint.

I could go on with enthusiasm about each instructor we have programmed to bring your dynamic workshop experiences, but why not spend a little time and see for yourself?  Many workshops filling up quickly - this is a good time to secure your spot in the workshop/s of your choice.
